Q'uq'
Q'uq' is a display typeface designed for K'iche', the largest Mayan language in Guatemala. It is offered as a proposal to replace the inherited colonial-era typography that dominates K'iche' signage that was imported from European traditions with no relationship to the culture they represent. The forms draw from two sources. The first is the resplendent quetzal, sacred bird of the Popol Vuh and namesake of the creator deity Q'uq'umatz. The second is the hand-painted vernacular signage of the K'iche' highlands.
